Thirty years after the Wonder World incident, Axel Foley remains a Detroit police detective under the supervision of his friend, Deputy Chief Jeffrey Friedman. Along with a partner, Axel pursues a group of thieves targeting the Detroit Red Wings - looting their belongings during a game - ensuing in a chase that causes an incredible amount of damage dealt on the city. After criticism from the police commissioner, Jeffrey announces his retirement and advises Axel to reconnect with his estranged daughter Jane Saunders, a defense attorney in Los Angeles who is under the tutelage of Axel's friend Billy Rosewood, a former Beverly Hills Police Officer who is is now a private investigator.
